My Halloween 2024 West Elm Collab
I’ve been collaborating with West Elm on a regular basis since 2022 and I love the work, especially because it’s been holiday related thus far. Also, their team is amazing to work with and has the best ideas - ideas I would never come up with on my own.
In March of 2023, we created a City Trick or Treat pillow cover and it just came out this season. The brief was to create a city Halloween scene complete with brownstones, a night sky, and funny costumes.
Below is my final sketch. We had several rounds of edits on this, before getting it just right. I typically create my sketches on vellum tracing paper. That way, I can use my glass drafting table as a lightbox when painting the final art. For this piece, I had to tape several pieces of tracing paper together to get the dimensions right.
Below is my final art for the pillow. This was one of the first nighttime scenes I had done in a long time. I had so much fun capturing the glowy lights of the city and the moon. I also got a kick out of creating funny Halloween costumes that would read well from a distance. It was a great exercise in creativity.
It always amazes me how these illustrations translate to pillows, because the final product is so much more beautiful than I ever could have imagined. The team at West Elm has a unique type of stitching they bring to ever pillow that adds dimension and makes it feel so high quality.
I’m sad to report this pillow sold out really fast, so it’s no longer available. I have hopes of it returning next year though. I do have some Winter products out right now (in addition to stockings, mugs, and plates), which I’ll be sharing in another post.
Thanks for stopping by! I’m an illustrator & writer. I’ve been running my own creative business since 2015. My mission is to help artists find their unique creative voice, build positive habits, and do what they love for a living.
