My Summer Reading List

If you’ve been reading my blog for some time, you probably know I’m a major bookworm. I typically read at least several books per month. Lately, I’ve been reading even more than usual. I’ve found so many amazing books, I just had to share them with you all.

For those of you who live in parts of the country where the temperature is too hot to go outside during the day (me too!), hopefully one of two of these gems will give you something fun to do indoors.

Non-Fiction

Summer 2020 Reading List.jpg

Limitless by Jim Kwik This book is a must-read! It also resulted in me finding the other books on this list, because they are all from Jim’s reading list. This book is about learning how to learn. Jim shares his tips and tricks for memorizing information, reading faster, eating brain foods, preventing dementia, and so much more. As someone who always got good grades in school, but had to work really hard for them, this book was a breath of fresh air. It helped me makes sense of why learning wasn’t always easy for me, while giving me some awesome tools to support a lifetime of education. I’m not joking when I say this book will change your life. It certainly changed mine.

Stress Less, Accomplish More by Emily Fletcher Another must-read! Thanks to Emily and her meditation technique, I’ve managed to stick with a twice daily practice for several weeks now. The effects of my new meditation habit have been life changing. I’ve felt significantly less stressed, while crushing it at work (just as promised). I’ve also enjoyed sleeping better and feeling more positive. If you’ve been trying to meditate for years (like me) and haven’t had any luck, this book is what you are missing.

Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg I’m reading this book right now, and I can already say it’s a winner. Our struggles and successes in life come down to habits. Master your habits, and you master your life. Thanks to this book, I’ve never understood habit formation better. BJ has been studying habits for years, and can explain why breaking bad habits and keeping good ones is so difficult. He also provides a simple plan to rewire our habits. I’ve never felt more in control of my day before. I’m loving every minute of this book, and can’t wait to finish reading it!

Becoming Superwoman by Nicole Lapin This gem is all about cultivating balance while still being awesome at life. Nicole tells of her own experience with burnout, and how she bounced back. More importantly, she debunks the myth that women have to be good at everything and do all the things. Her practical advice is so on point. Reading Nicole’s book was like a getting a warm hug. Self-employed woman are especially susceptible to burnout, so this is a must-read if you have your own business like me.

Fiction

Something She’s Not Telling Us by Darcey Bell I finished this book in a matter of days! It’s super quick, and super juicy. For anyone who has seen the movie “A Simple Favor,” this book is by the same author. It’s a thriller about a woman and her brother’s new girlfriend. There are lots of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of you seat throughout the entire story.

City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert Sooo I actually haven’t read this book yet, but it’s on my nightstand :) My sister-in-law gave it to me last week, and it was perfect timing because I had just finished Something She’s not Telling Us. Her recommendation is trustworthy, so I felt this book was worth mentioning. I Ioved Big Magic and Eat Pray Love, so I’m super excited for Elizabeth’s latest fiction creation.
